In Our Playroom

One of the most important things you can do as a parent to maximize your child’s therapy progress is to engage in play with your child. Gaining functional and imaginative play skills can open up a world of learning opportunities for your child, including increased motivation for labeling and requesting during play, development of imitation skills, following instructions, and tolerating sharing preferred items. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder can have significant play skill deficits, and may need explicit instruction and modeling to learn how to engage with toys as they are designed. On this page, we will share with you our favorite toys and activities from our playroom that your children are using during therapy. It can sometimes be difficult as an adult to be silly or change the prompts you give your child during play, so we’ve also included play guides for each toy to facilitate language development.
